Dust, darkness, headlights. Motion in the nothingness, the wasteland. Like a single, lost particle, the first track roams through this black night. Exposition. We discover. We see how form and shape come into being, how a construct creates itself: A civilization, buildings, people, interaction.
Paths intersect and the tension bursts. The sharp baritone saxophone (Marc De Maeseneer) cuts through the air, drilling into ones ear. The conflict is physically tangible and we see that something big is being drawn here. Protagonist vs. antagonist. That classic issue. That eternal friction. Here with BackBack.
They take us, grasp us, throw us into the middle of the conflict. Songs without words. Fine storytelling with great awareness of the material and techniques and of space. Endless space, like in a desert – in which this story may play. Every note or chord the guitar (Filip Wauters) is playing gives us the feeling of small particles of sand hitting our eyes, soft pain, the sun is burning; We are right there, right in the middle of it – we sense the tension. Even the three musicians can not escape it. We may find one retarding piece of music. There seems a way out – hope – but as endless and wide as the desert, the prospect of escape is just so little. It draws us in like a maelstrom. We even do not want to escape. We are yearning for the resolution desperately. The drums (Giovanni Barcella) urging, further even further, brute. What is left in the end? Salvation or damnation?
BackBack tells this story to the end. But what remains is a cut, a scar and the certainty that a new story will tee off. Again from the beginning, an endless loop. So again we press play and we start spinning once more.

Staub, Dunkelheit, Scheinwerferlicht. Bewegung im Nichts, in der Einöde. Wie ein einzelnes, verlorenes Partikel durchstreift der erste Track diese schwarze Nacht. Exposition. Wir lernen etwas kennen. Wir sehen, wie Form entsteht, wie ein Konstrukt sich erschafft. Eine Zivilisation, Häuser, Menschen, Interaktionen.
Wege kreuzen sich und die Spannung berstet. Das scharfe Baritonsaxofon (Marc De Maeseneer) durchschneidet die Luft, bohrt sich in das Ohr. Der Konflikt ist physisch greifbar und wir sehen, hier wird Großes gezeichnet. Protagonist*in vs. Antagonist*in. Das ewige Thema. Die ewige Reibung. Auch hier mit Back Back.
Sie nehmen uns mit, ergreifen uns, werfen uns mitten in den Konflikt. Songs without words. Feines Storytelling mit großem Bewusstsein für die eingesetzten Mittel und für Raum und Platz. Endlos viel Raum und Platz, wie in der Wüste in der diese Geschichte spielen mag. Wir spüren mit jedem Ton der Gitarre (Filip Wauters) die kleinen Sandpartikel auf unsere Augen treffen, leichter, echter Schmerz, die Sonne brennt; wir sind da – wir spüren die Spannung. Auch die drei Musiker können sich dieser nicht entziehen. Ein retardierendes Stück Musik wird es geben. Es scheint wie ein Ausweg, eine Hoffnung, doch so weit wie die Wüste, so begrenzt die Aussicht auf Entrinnen. Aber es zieht uns wie in einem Strudel hinein. Wir wollen gar nicht entrinnen. Wir sehnen uns nach der Auflösung. Die Drums (Giovanni Barcella) treiben uns an, immer weiter, brachialer. Worauf läuft es am Ende hinaus? Erlösung oder Verdammnis?
Back Back erzählen diese Geschichte zu Ende. Doch was bleibt, ist ein Schnitt, eine Narbe und die Gewissheit, dass eine neue Geschichte anfangen wird. Wieder von vorne, im Loop, wieder drücken wir auf Play und der Kreisel dreht sich erneut.
